Tissue vs Wax vs Butter Paper: How to Choose a Printed Wrap packaging example
Use the product, route to customer and quantity to choose the right packaging specification.

Use tissue for a soft presentation layer

Printed tissue is commonly used to wrap products inside a box, separate items or add a branded reveal. Choose a sheet size that folds around the product without excessive waste and consider the colours and pattern when they are layered over the item. If the tissue will touch food, confirm that exact use with the supplier instead of assuming all tissue is suitable.

Specify wax or greaseproof paper by its intended job

A paper name alone does not prove how a finished sheet will behave with heat, moisture, oil or direct food contact. Describe the product, contact conditions and whether the paper is a wrap, liner or outer presentation layer. Ask the supplier which material and print specification is confirmed for that use, and keep the supporting documents with the artwork.

  • Share the expected food type, temperature and contact time if it touches food.
  • Confirm whether the print is on the food-contact side or the outside.
  • Check sheet dimensions against the portion, tray or box.

Compare the whole pack, not just the sheet

A printed wrap often works alongside a box, sticker, insert or card. Confirm how the sheet is folded and packed, whether it must fit a particular box size, and how the complete order will be stored. For food-contact projects, review the current Food Standards Agency guidance and obtain confirmation for the exact material and intended application.
