Define which pharmacy product the box will hold
Identify whether the carton is for a licensed medicine, a non-medicinal pharmacy product or another item, and provide the dimensions of the pack inside it. Include any bottle, blister, leaflet or insert that must fit. Do not assume the outer carton replaces information on the product container or a patient leaflet.
Map approved wording and leaflet into the pack
Send current artwork and information approved by the relevant medicines team. If a leaflet, code, seal or other feature is required, state its finished size and position. Request a drawing or sample to check fit and legibility, while keeping decisions about required wording and regulatory status with the responsible team.
Information to share with the packaging team
- Product type and complete pack dimensions
- Bottle, blister, leaflet and insert measurements
- Approved artwork and product variants
- Required code, seal or specified feature
- Quantity by version and delivery postcode
Keep regulatory review with the responsible medicines team
MHRA guidance explains that packaging and labelling information for UK medicines is subject to approval, and that a patient information leaflet must be included if the label does not contain all necessary information. Have the responsible medicines team confirm approved content and pack configuration, then check the proof against it.
