Choose between a food pack and an outer carton
Describe the food product and whether the box holds it directly, surrounds a sealed pack or groups several portions. Measure the filled inner pack and include seals, trays or liners. If food may touch the box, say so at the start so the material can be considered for that intended use.
Size for the food service and items inside
Include portion count and any sauce pot, cutlery, leaflet or accessory. Share the temperature, oil or moisture conditions that the pack may encounter and ask for the proposed format to be reviewed against them.
A planning checklist for general food boxes
- Food type, filled dimensions and unit count
- Primary pack, liner or direct-contact use
- Storage and service route
- Approved product information and artwork
- Quantity by design and delivery postcode
Verify contact use and food information
FSA guidance covers food-business packaging and labelling requirements, as well as food-contact materials. Have your food business approve the final wording and confirm the material for the intended use. Review a sample or drawing with the actual pack-out before agreeing the order specification.
